Others in the group rose at 6 a.m. just for the pleasure of an early morning swim in the sea (which is, of course, actually a lake). I'm told it was beautifully warm, as the swimmers were bathed in morning sunshine.
Today we will spend the day on or around the shores of the lake, round which so much of Jesus's ministry was spent.
The Ancient Galilee Boat - by Chris Gothard, pilgrim
Just ordinary, really.
One of dozens like it
Valuable, yes, for those of us
With a living to make,
But commonplace.
There was this man
He just said he needed
A boat. To get away from
The crowds.
Mad they were for him.
You see, sound does funny
Things here.
And it turns out he wanted
To get onto the sea, to
Talk to them all, be heard.
But I still think he borrowed
Me and my boat to get away.
I looked in his eyes and
Saw he was weary.
Seems like whatever way
He said it, this message,
That lot just didn't get it.
He wanted to get away
All right. Sure of it.
Then he turned towards them.
And I looked into his eyes
And saw eternity.
No wonder he was tired.

A belated happy birthday to my Mum! I'm sure she was one of the early-morning swimmers yesterday morning, knowing how she loves swimming.
ReplyDeleteHope the trip is going well and my Mum enjoyed her birthday yesterday.
