Expect the unexpected part 1

To expect the unexpected is a good rule for any pilgrimage. Perhaps that is especially so in the Middle East, when things don't always go according to plan. Which is how we have found ourselves back on the West Bank, in this case in Ramallah, rather than in the Old City of Jerusalem as we had expected.

Ramallah is a substantial modern city, and serves as the Palestinian capital. The presence of Yasser Arafat lingers: his face is painted on the Wall as we pass the checkpoint, and his mausoleum is here.

All is well and the party is cheerful and has adapted to the change of plan well.
